Londonderry too hot for the boys from Chile

Junior Section Match Report - Colina 1 - 4 Co. Londonderry

The home side provided the majority of goals in today's exhilarating fixture in Anderson's Park, running out 4 – 1 victors.

Colina's pacy number 10 Barrales and 3 Espina performed well to intercept play and prevent Londonderry from any early goals, but the county team's outstanding number 11 shone through from the very beginning of the game.  Further promising play from the Chileans witnessed Brito performing well defensively and Carvajal took a chance, but the Londonderry keeper collected comfortably.  Threats from the solid Zencovich for Colina were also handled well by the opposing keeper.

Despite pressure from Duffy for Londonderry and good play from McGarvey and McClean it was Colina who snatched the first goal after a superb Barros swept the ball into the net to make it 1-0, much to the delight of the young South Americans who had yet to experience their first goal in this year's tournament.

However, Colina's joy was short-lived when a penalty for Londonderry saw them level the match at 1-1, with Wilson deceiving the keeper to bring his team back into the game. Colina tried hard to keep a resurgent county side at bay, in particular the impressive Alvarado and a persistent Aravena were holding firm at the back.  However, they could do nothing about a great shot from McLaughlin which fired the home side into the lead.  This was quickly followed by a second penalty for Wilson, after a foul in the Colina box, the young Londonderry player extending his side’s lead with another well taken spotkick.

A powerful Londonderry side continued to keep the pressure on the Chileans, Wilson sent a corner into McClelland who had a go, but was unlucky to find the side netting.  Despite a chance from Fernandez for Colina, he could not find a way past the L'Derry keeper, who had a great fame.

The final blow for the Chielans came when Hawe slotted a great goal in from close range to settle the game at an impressive 4-1 scoreline.
